just seeing what other peoples opinions are and whether relationships between two horsey people work..
or whether it works better to have one non horsey partner
I'm only 17 but coming from Brighton most of my friends are city people, including my boyfriend.
Since i've got Ronnie Louie has made SUCH an effort to make sure this isn't something that i do on my own and that we both enjoy it. We've been together 9months and I know he was at first worried that we would have even less time together but it hasn't been like that at all.
Former city boy who never had his feet out of trainers asked for a Riding hat and Hunter wellies for christmas, wants to get Ron 'His own headcoller' and learn to ride. I honestly can't wait to teach him.D
He even goes up to see him in his field when i'm at work!
both me and my OH are horsey... well hes not my OH yet lol... its much easier to say he is lol
but i mucked his out for him yesterday, and turned them out this morning... and he takes me home (im only 16 and cant drive) he helped me bring in mine today and is going to pull my ponys mane
quite nice cos we help each other and just spend all our time together at the yard...
but i guess a horsey couple can work.. eg the funnells!!!
Both of us are horsey, he (Dark_Knight on here) is the professional one, he instructs and rides for a living, I am the "hobby" rider, but can end up more of the "crash test" dummy when he has horses in to back!
We work really well together on the yard, we do things without needing to talk, just seem to read each others minds and the jobs get done. He instructs me, my daughters and our 6 yr old son, so lessons are free
, but as in any household we can have our "moments"
Yey.
He lets me have a hunter or two of his whenever I like, and he whips in.
Down at uni I usually do more, he gets to do the fun stuff, like actually ride, although he also used to turn out when I felt hungover.
It's give and take, but we are on the same wave length, and we are doing the same thing.
When I was your age I went out with Tom Whitaker for a while as we lived near one another. It was very cool, but I hated the fact he was a lot better at riding than me, and the one time I rode Bounty I realised that it just wasn't for me!
My OH isn't horsey but will take an interest, comes down to the yard with me sometimes, helps out and has come to shows but wont ride. I sometimes think it is better that way, to do your own things but take an interest in what each other does. I have my horses and he likes his snowboarding.
couldnt be dealing with that
He has 2 showjumpers.. well an ex-showjumper and a future possible showjumper if it will go forward in a straight line (bit mad atm... not been ridden for 2 years!!) ill ride the ex-showjumper lol but not the other one!
he cant ride mine though
hes too tall and will need roller skates haha

i hate that too runtoearth...
your lucky both you and your OH hunt...
Been with my OH 2 1/2 years, he's a country lad but never really had any contact with horses before he met me. Luckily he took a shine to my girls and has had riding lessons this year - my only issue is that he's 20 stone (6'2 tall) so can't ride any of my girls. Hopefully we'll be able to afford to buy him a horse eventually.
I feel really lucky, I throughly enjoy having him around with the horses and he seems to enjoy helping out with them
Me and the oh have been together 40 years and yay and nay, I've got 4 horses own stables and land, he works to pay the bills, although he does ride and very well, doesn't like mucking out, come hay time he's there carting it all in and empties the muck trailer every week by hand and doesn't complain about the feed bill per month, mainly cause I don't tell him, he'd have a nervous break down. Will change the rugs and look after them if I'm every ill, but theres more work if I take day off so will drag myself there. But yes he's a yay man sort of.

Ha, I was once put on a very slim young sj at Tom's and it honestly just wasn't for me. That and after about three big shows I felt more like his groom than his GF and decided seeing someone famous was really not that great, and he didn't appriciate Oshk for how MEGA he is, where as Alex is constantly stealing him from me- you are lucky yours is too big for yours- I tack up, turn around and he has got on Oshk!!
thats cute lol
its a pain, cos i feel really short... especially if we ride together.. his is 17.2 and mine is 14.2 haha lol
oh well his 6ft2/3... which is good cos i like tall guys
at least you can steal your OH's horses... and i guess they may not try kill you???
I have a 17.1 and they honestly aren't that big- I bet you could set about stealing the showjumper
My OH is a short arse, same height as me, so if I wear heels he is smaller than me, he hates that!
His pointer did scare me out hunting because it hadn't been out for ages and just set off at racing pace, took me a while to stop him!
I usually steal J monster or Joseph, they are awesome for hunting
im not brave enough to get on that showjumper lol
the one i ride is bad enough as it is.. cant use your legs, or your hands...
if you use your hands he bolts.. and hell jump anything... jumped the gate of the arena... rears like hell
but i dont mind him, i just dont use my hands or legs lol
the new one just goes backwards, then up and as he comes down from the up he bucks!! hes a bit dangerous when he wants to be...
oh its ok with heels for me, i have about 5 inches lol
your lucky hes got horses that you dont mind riding though....
i wont get on his unless he is there lol, and he wont let me ride the new one; cos he doesnt want me to get hurt haha
My last 2 girlfriends were horsey and the results were mixed.
With the 2nd it worked - we both respected the time each spent with our horses and only actually rode together once in 15 months.
With the 1st it was an utter disaster. She resented the time I spent with mine, yet still expected me to help her out with her's. That also lasted 15 months, but felt like a life sentence...
I like mine horsey (single sadly at the moment) but with own horses or own interests so they don't try and share mine! I'm very fussy about how my own horses go, and unless I found a horsey OH who could ride them better than me they would have no chance of getting their hands on them! I was sharing one horse with a horsey OH before and in the end I banned him from riding him as he made him in to some sort of loon.
Both love our ponies , recently have been broken at different times so I have only ridden with her about half a dozen times this year. Good job really or we'd never see eachother!
Lovely to be able to share a hobby and to be able to understand and support each other with our riding, and to get additional feedback. Best of all we are now looking to buy a horse together, it is really only achievable for us as we can share the horse, the cost and the work. Luckily we ride to a similar standard and aren't too different in height so it is practical.
I have a very horsey OH (rides and teaches and sells for a living) which is super in some respects as I have a 'proper' job and it means I can ride any time I want without having to pay for it or go back to the days of 5am starts in DIY Livery - BUT it does mean I get up at 5am to go to events and groom for him through the event season and outside of the season spend my days off from work at the yard giving his grooms their days off and we have little 'unhorsey' time together.
3 hours spent mucking out 26 horses on Christmas Day with frozen drinkers (well apart from the one which had leaked all over the yard and turned to sheet ice (inside!!!) did make me wonder since everyone else I know was chilling out watching TV!

My horse has dumped 2 ex's on the floor. He has better taste in women than I do...
