Just a small rant, i went to a local christmas show at a local riding school today to watch my friends have do silly comps such as jockey and groom, pairs relay etc. I was quite disgusted at the daughter who was riding the pony and mother owner at the show. The pony was about 13.2hh very fine, beautiful show pony type. The girl riding was too big for the pony for a start! In the warm up ring it was being constantly made to jump with a boy on, then the girl both too big for the mare. The pony was terrified and would not jump especially in the ring it refused the first jump and was eliminated twice. The mother was stood next to me watching shouting "Whip It Make it Jump"! The poor pony was all over the place obviously not a jumper as she was terrified literally and was being whipped. That was the first time the mother said "Take it in the ring and make it jump"!! Note the word IT!!!! Horrible obnoxious woman i had to walk away to calm down, then at the end of it in the collecting ring the mother said "Its a show pony really i only brought it to have some fun"" FUN for who?????? The poor pony was a dithering wreck, being smacked, mouth pulled so how was it fun!! I was disgusted people like this should not own horses or ponies. I want to name and shame her really in case anyone knows who she is but i will be barred off H and H! Also i have never seen anyone stop their ponies by standing up in the stirrups and pulling on the mouth while leaning back!!!!!

Sounds horrific. Its not suprising some kids are bratty when this is the sort of moron bringing then up.
Hopefully their next pony won't be as sweet, I'd like to think of the 'lady' shouting at "it" while picking her teeth up off the floor.

I see ponies being stopped like that all the time... It's so fashionable at moment. Nothing so attractive as soured pony club mum...

Unfortunately this is what we were taught by one particular instructor at college (she left after my thrid year) as our "emergency stop". I was horrified having been working as head girl in a showing yard for years and with eventers I had never seen anything like this. I was screamed at for not participating but why would I want to kick my horse on to then yank on it's mouth when it's done what I want?

Disgusting. Sadly all too common, ive seen way too many of these people. At one show i complained about children abusing their whips and to their credit they did put up a sign saying anyone doing it would be asked to leave.

It is horrific. There are alot of people out there who should NOT own a horse, like those who leave them stuck in stables with no food or water because they are too lazy to get up in the morning.

Stupid I agree, but perhaps she wanted to teach the students a way to cope if something bolts with them in the future?
Keeping safe is number one, kindness a very close second!

The woman sounds awfull OP,but sadly all too common :(
I don't have any issue with calling a horse or pony it (TBH it is better then some names I have come across over the years  :D ) as long as the horse si well treated, but when someone like the woman in your post uses "it" it always seems they no longer think of the horse as a living animal :(

The show was at a riding school and the pony was one of their liveries im sure. Did feel sorry for the daughter too she seemed a bit embarrassed. Yes i should have said something but i was that angry i had to go and calm down away from the woman otherwise i would of had a fight!!

It goes on because people walk away and dont say something, op if you felt so strongly you should have spoken to a steward or the person running the show.

^^^This!

I wouldn't have been able to stop myself from saying something. I would have made sure everyone around the woman heard me too.

As others have said, there is no point in coming on here and being outraged. Speak to the organisers of the show. If the people you are complaining about are liveries there so what?
