people with synthetic saddles, how much did you pay buying from the fitter?

I ask because I am trying to decide whether to buy a likely candidate or two on ebay and have the fitter out to have a look or whether to be lazy and let them bring me some.

I know for leather saddles you pay a tonne more buying from the saddler so I assume it's the same with synthetics. I don't wish to sound mean but hey, I am. :o

Fitter - list price IME.

Ebay - synthetic changeable gullet saddles hold their value very well compared to leather.

Equestrian clearance warehouse - best of both worlds. If they have the size / colour / model you want you can get it at a bargain price but new.

I recently had a lovely 16 inch wintec from a saddler, he changed the gullet and reflocked and also changed the gullet and reflocked on my other one the visit came to 160, think that was really reasonable as the saddle is in great condition.

I paid list price from a saddle fitter but IMO it was well worth the difference as the one I thought would fit after following all the measuring guides didn't fit at all.
A well fitting saddle is priceless... Or at least saves money in the long run by avoiding vet/physio bills.

I'm not going to use something that doesn't fit, don't panic :) Equally I'm not shelling out over the odds for something.

Horses are expensive enough and she's going to get through at least four saddles before she's done growing so she'll have to make do with something second hand and tatty for now!

I will ring round and see what people have in stock second hand that might do the job, otherwise I'll have to have a proper look at what I can find myself. I hate having to get the fitter out. I don't really trust them at the best of times :o

What size do you need Jess? Any idea?
I have half a dozen thorowgoods in 17 inch, one might do you for now and you can send it back when you are done.

I would imagine I'd be after 16.5 or 17 inch medium so nothing particularly out of the ordinary. She is just short. All my other horses have been long and I've only got 17.5 and 18 inch saddles. Typical

She has been wearing my jumping saddle which is nice on her width wise but really a bit on the long side. If I'm going to ride for more than ten minutes more than once a month it's time she had something of her own I suppose. Serves me right for having two ends of the extreme, my mother was laughing and saying if I cut a bit out of the middle of him and stuck it into her I'd have a nice horse! :D
