Yard owner has let her electric fence stop working. Surprise surprise one of the herd of four at our field had broken into her long grass shes saving for her (fat) horse. This wouldn’t affect me except she’s switched it round to saying the herd need hay in the field or she wouldn’t be in there! She would as she was allowed to graze in there last year. If electric not on what does she expect.
Why I’m fed up is the livery whose horse it is has decided my little fat pint paddock is where she wants to put her horse to eat some haylage! Why is it my pony that has to suffer??
He wasn’t using it every night as grass is so poor I’ve been leaving him out. I’m cross cos I’ve put a lot of effort into pulling all the ragwort out fencing it and keeping it poo picked and tidy. Grr. Yards! Why is it meter simple?

Speak up and say No.
Explain you have maintained that paddock and are using it, and it isnt available.
But then you risk hearing some yard owners' favourite phrase, 'If you don't like it you can always go'. Usually followed by, ' You don't know how lucky you are.' Sometime I think I've been on livery too long and might have become just a bit jaded by the whole experience.

It’s interesting isn’t it. I wouldn’t say I was a complete push over but feel like I can’t stand up for myself on this one. Not sure why.
Probably because in an ideal world you could just say "yes of course" because you know the paddock would be returned in the same state and timing would be worked around your own pony, but I suspect that isn't the reality and saying no means admitting you know the other people involved can't be decent 😬

The road to Pushover Town is paved with very reasonable requests!

You don't have to do it in a confrontational way, speak to the YO and say you want to discuss turnout arrangements and you are very happy with your paddock and are disappointed you wont be able to use it with the new arrangement and what would she suggest? Present it as a problem you want her help solving and be honest about how you feel.

It's also because it's a horse that's affected. We don't care about the owner but are inclined to help find a solution for the horse.

They’re doing it sneakily behind yard owners back!

Then just tell the Yard Owner you're not comfortable with the request & let them deal with it.

I must admit, I've asked the odd favour of a livery I'm on friendly terms with and would always expect them to tell me if they'd rather not (and there would geniunely be no ill feeling if they said no - I usually expect them to!) so it's not necessarily anything more to it than they geniunely thought you were no longer using the paddock.

I wouldn't fret about it.

Speak to the YO about it and tell the PIA livery 'no'. No you cant have my hay, no you cant use my paddock. Its very simple
You have to advocate for yourself, no one is going to do it for you.
And saying no becomes easier thereafter
