can any one help where to get peppermint oil from,my pony has to have bute syringed, been advised to give oil first and then syringe bute into mouth,as this gives a lining,he has cushings and will not eat feed with bute in.

Any supermarket will have peppermint cordial which I use to hide bute in. Mix it to youghut then mix with feed. Try a small feed first so as not to waste whole feed if doesn't eat!

I'm sure I've read on here that Danilon is the same as bute but is palatable. If this is a long term thing, maybe that would be easier as ned would eat it happily in his feed so there wouldn't be a daily battle that you will both come to dread. Not sure of the difference in price though x

got Danilon,he still wont eat feed ,he wont eat anything today, feel at wits end ,bloody cushings, thanks for your comments

You can get peppermint oil in Holland & Barrett and any health food shops. Boots probably do it also.....sorry about your predicament. Would he eat veg? Like parsnips, carrots swede, apples? My mare had grass sickness and lived on veg for 18 months.

thankyou for replying, tried him with carrots, treats not intrested, rang the vet who said try him again with a fresh feed tonight

update gave him a warm feed he ate most of it ,had to syringe danolin down his mouth, seemed a bit brighter, but not eating hay when we left,we all love him so much had him 12 years,we look after him so well, i feel why us im sure im not alone,

I have a cushings pony too and he will not eat bute or his medication in feeds! and I too sometimes seem at my wits end. I have been syringing his medication for a while, the vet suggested golden syrup with the bute and his tablets, we made what looks like a horse feed flapjack!! with bute and meds inside and today he loved it!!
Best of luck x
