can anyone please tell me how long it takes for these to start working, my mare as been on them for a couple of days now, and still looks really down in the dumps

Still early days yet, I'd say a week to ten days, although it's been a while since I had a pony on it so can't remember exactly.

Is your pony laminitic as well? Sometimes the discomfort from that doesn't help and it takes a while for it all to settle down.

Cushings is always worse in the autumn so don't dispair

A couple of days isn't a very long time and it took about 3 months to get properly established in my horses system; our vet told us that it does take a little while to show any signs of improvement. Give it till the new year and i bet she starts to act like a different horse

I was told as long as one to three months (which I felt we didn't have) or as soon as a fortnight. Luckily, we were sooner rather than later. Watch for a change in appetite as nausea is a side effect. Certainly one forummer experienced severe nausea when accidentally taking a pergolide

instead of a paracetamol

Fortunately no lasting ill effects (she is admitting to!).

I was the idiot who took the pergolide

Nausea is an understatement, I have never been so sick or felt so ill, I though I was dying

No lasting effects though and no problems with laminitis

With regard to how long it takes to work on ponies, I think my girl perked up in a few weeks, it certianly seems to keep her happy, and although she has had a couple of mild lami bouts this year they have been manageable. She has been on it for 4 years.

I know how you feel landyandy , My pony has recently had his dose upped a bit to see if he will feel any better, My vet said it can take up to around 4 weeks to show a difference , heres hoping as if he doesnt pick up we have discussed having him put to sleep as he seems to be really deteriorating and very sad and depressed looking .

i almost took pergolide once by accident but thankfully realised , god murphysminder , were u ok afterwards ??? thats terrible . xxx
