Your vet will be able to issue you a prescription so you will be able to shop around. Some chemists may be able to supply you otherwise it is possible to buy it over the internet from southern europe.

search pergolide using the search button on the top of this page, loads has been written about it... basically if you get a prescription from the vet you can get it at a pharmacy as its a human drug used to treat/ help with parkinsons disease...

Seemingly its going to be withdrawn from the American market for human use due to bad side affects, BUT, its still going to be available for animal use. Id stock up on it while its still available for human use as it will probably be obtainable only from the vet in the future at a huge cost

I do not think that there are any plans at present to withdraw it from the UK human market - About a month ago I phoned the UK branch of the manufacturing firm that is involved in withdrawing it in the US. The UK branch were rather reluctant to comment and just said they were aware of the situation in the USA and were considering what action to take themselves. They would not respond to my question as to whether I should stock up on supplies! I then had a word with my local chemist and he has not heard of any rumours about it being withdrawn in the UK. He felt that it may a case of the USA tending to be more litigatious minded than the UK in medical matters and that this may be what caused the US withdrawal. He does not think that the UK will necessarily follow suit. Please note that this is his only his personal opinion. Short term hopefully supplies will still be ok. There is also some talk of maintaining a small amount in manufacture for the human patients who will not convert successfully to the substitute drugs being offered for the withdrawn pergolide.

Just thought I'd add that it's worth phoning around your local chemists to get quotes. After talking to EllieP I phoned around and managed to get 300 tablets for £95.

Just thought I'd add that you should make sure that your vet makes the prescription out for Pergolide, not Celance which is a brand name for Pergolide but is more expensive than the generic product. A bit like Nurofen is much more expensive than unbranded Ibuprofen, even though it is exactly the same thing!
