Does anyone have any experience of dealing with horses with recurring periodontitis/gingivitis? I'm looking for any hints and tips to help me deal with this.
Horse is 23 and has had 7 diastema widened to help alleviate the condition but it keeps recurring every few months. She is very patient and lets me clean out the gaps as best i can - next goal is to teach her how to floss!!
When its bad she can't eat hay at all (soaked/unsoaked or hayledge) and chokes on any form of short chop so can only eat sloppy high fibre nuts and speedi-beet. Trust her to have a bad flare up now when the grass is under a foot of snow! I spent about an hour up to my bare elbows last night getting gobbed on and covered in water! I don't usually mind this but it's really not funny when it's minus 9!!!
Thanks from her and me!
