Hi there.

I went down the yard on tue morning and found my friends horse looking rather poorly. Called the vet ASAP, to cut a long story short he's now in Newbury vet hospital with Peritonitis. He's recovering well thank goodness.

I was just wondering if anyone else had had similar experiences, how long did it take for the horse to recover, can you carry on as normal straightaway or do they have a lengthy recovery period. etc etc

Thanks

If you PM my friend Nelson11 she will tell you about her youngster that had it and his recovery. x

My 5 year old gelding thankfully recovered from it in July - he came back from vets having lost alot of of weight and muscle and had been seriously ill- he had two further weeks off when he came back and then was slowly built up in fitness again. He was at the vets for nearly 3 weeks - keep an eye on the costs as my vets bill was over £6.5k . When they come home you need to keep a really strict temperature monitoring regime with them in case you get a reoccurrnece which can happen when you come off of the antibiotics and just keep a close eye on them. Hope the horse contues to recover well.
