Hello,

Interested to know if anyone has a horse that has recovered from Peritonitis after being in the vets on antibiotics?

Got a horse who has been mis-diagnosed by a veterinary practice after 6 call outs for colic and also him going into them for a day. We decided to get a second opinion and he has Peritonitis. It’s been going on for 2 and a half weeks.

Thank you all for your messages. They are doing a gut fluid test today so will know more later. He seems good in himself, is eating and drinking.

Thanks for the update, that sounds positive. I remember mine had mild colic symptoms in the morning and by the time the vet came (early pm) she was very uncomfortable and her droppings had gone from normal to cowpats which he said was an indication of peritonitis.

My friends 3 year old gelding did, he was very poorly but recovered well.
A quick response and aggressive treatment gives a better outcome which is what he received.
