my native pony yearling suffered a cut to inside of hind leg which was quite deep and about two inches long. It was treated by cleaning and was not stitched as he lives out and it had happened several hours before it was discovered. Despite being given antibiotic treatment by vet the cut took months to heal and was really unsightly with horrible scarring and swelling(he was never lame) despite my trying everything I knew. vet was not overly concerned i suspect because he was just a pony......Anyway I resorted to electro therapy, hired expensive machine etc. Seemed to help and cut is well healed now six months dowm line. There is still a definate difference in the two legs and I wondered what the chances are that this thickening will go? its not soft or sore just bigger if that makes sense. I had hoped to show in hand but I suppose thats out the window now.
