Persisting splint !!

In the second week in July I noticed a splint on my horses near fore, just below the knee. It was the day after a full on beach ride during PC camp. This was originally thought to have caused it however on further inspection we realised that he swings in with his front legs, and therefore was most likely to have given himself a knock, and then the road work aggravated it.

He had 12 weeks out of work, turned out to grass and was never lame however there was heat in it. He has since developed sidebone and a second splint ( much smaller with no heat ). I have been told by many people that he is fine however there is still heat in it which means i am anxious to fully crack on with him. He has been schooling for the last 3 weeks and has stayed sound but the heat remains!

If anyone has had a similar experience or advice on what should be done with him it would be greatly appreciated. It is driving me cray as after 15 weeks there is still heat although he is sound. I am dying to get going but want to be 100% before doing so. Also more information on sidebone is more than welcome!

* He has been looked at by both a vet and farrier *

Thanks :)

I always got told warm = active splint i.e :- treat accordingly and no work. Cold = Inactive splint. With above information i certainly wouldn't be working this horse, but others may beg to differ/

Both splints and side bone can be indicators of poor foot balance and as you have both, plus an inwards swinging limb, I'd get a second opinion on the foot balance.
