I vaguely remember in a thread about vet costs there was somebody on HHO whose horse had their tooth removed and then had a series of subsequent infections. I am currently going through the nightmare of this and would really appreciated it if I could ask for their experiences and compare situations...!
If anyone knows who it is (or has been through something similar) please reply or PM me - could really do with the moral support if nothing else!
thanks so much

Oh no sorry to hear you are going through this, I don't think I ever posted about it but my horse had a molar removed it was extracted thankfully after an 5 hour operation, rather than being taken through the jaw.

All seemed good and he came home but then was very ill with infections afterwards. He ended up back in hospital on an antibiotic drip for a while which picked him up but once home it came back. Eventually they found a tiny fragment of tooth although they didn't think it was necessarily the cause it did clear up after that and another change of antiobiotic.

They happened to be human tablets and he had to have about 200 a day  they did the trick though thankfully and he picked up from there.

Feel free to pm me if you need to vent, I remember the feeling only too well :o

Hi, it might well be me. Mine isn't the best of experiences as ours didn't have a happy ending ( I think if you go back a few pages under this section under tooth abcess you will see. It's very, very difficult and I understand what you are going through, the waiting.... The disappointment, the next op, hope, it goes on. We had this last year. Please feel free to pm me if you want to know anything else or just want to chat. Yours may turn out a success story x x

Hello,
I have posted before regarding my old gelding who had a sinus infection which was caused by a rotten tooth. He had the tooth removed but the sinus infection would not go away despite antibiotics, then a swab was taken to identify the bugs and a specific antibiotic prescribed - all to no avail. Vet wanted to take a piece of bone out from under his eye to clean out the sinus but I didnt want this done because there was a danger of him banging his face whilst healing and ending up with a dent there. In the end, because I was going away for 5 weeks, I turned him out 24/7 and because he had his nose down chomping grass day and night it drained the sinus naturally and cleared up all on its own.
Hope this helps.
