I know the general symptoms of ulcers : lethargic , colic , rearing etc. But has anyone experienced any other symptoms such as spooking/ bolting under the saddle, constantly gnawing teeth , drinking after feed- ALWAYS , wind sucking whilst making burping noises etc.

Any replies much appreciated :)

My mare was girthy and snappy when having rugs done up. She was very fizzy as soon as she cantered and wouldn't listen to me at all with her head in the air and would basically run not trot. She drank an enormous amount of water and had the dodgiest poo ever.

Slight improvement on gastrogard but what really made a difference was stuff for the hind gut. She had a detox from some company I can't remember the name of and something else from thunderbrooks - gut restore maybe?

Mine has had peptizole, changed on to thunderbrooks base mix, Ulcagon, and gut restore which helped enormously, and just recently Chios mastic which has firmed her poos perfectly. :). I'll ride at the weekend but things are looking up.

The Trinity Detox stuff was this.http://trinity-consultants.com/product/l94/

It was also interesting to note when the trimmer came out, she said that my horses's thin soles were most likely gut related and once we'd done the detox and kept her on the Gut Restore, her feet really started to improve.

Mine was withdrawn and anxious-looking & would bite & kick on rug changes. He was also very anxious at feed times & would gobble his food really urgently. A friend who had ulcers herself (not her horse) said that hers were worse when hungry & the only thing that helped them was eating. He didn't shed his coat properly all summer & was thin. He also had spectacularly loud gut noises & would get a gassy colic every 2 or 3 months.

He was scoped (grade 2 pyloric) & we did the whole gastrogard-antibiotics etc thing which made no difference on rescope. I did get a response to omeprazole. I got a much better response to AloeRide, which normalised the gut noises & also made him normally windy. Might be TMI, but he never passed wind before like a normal horse, whereas on the aloe, he did.

We then found out that he had KS as well (they are often found together) so that was treated surgically & he's now back in work. Then I ran out of aloe (had a year's subscription) & he had a gassy colic 2 or 3 weeks later. I quickly signed up for another year & within 2 or 3 days the volcanic gut noises subsided & the wind came back. He also shed his coat properly last year.

I would say that he doesn't have ulcers any more. He has really come out of his shell, doesn't bite or kick at all, eats his food at a normal pace rather than gobbling & looks far, far happier.
