My OH's work will be based in Peebles, we're likely going to have to move down there at some point. We'd need to be ideally within an hour of his office (Im hoping more North/Perthshire direction) so a pretty wide area. Im panicking quite a bit about my 2 horses. Ive always kept mine at home, Ive never liveried so its all new to me. One of my horses is a veteran and a stressy type who has always lived out and never been in a busy yard. Id want my 2 horses to stay together ideally in their own little paddock. Is this something any livery yards offer? A paddock with perhaps a field shelter ideally and its your own responsibility and you can put in it what you want, ie. my 2 horses only? I just cant put them in a herd, I know many yards do that or they demand a certain amount of stabling which makes me feel rather sick! Am I asking for something completely unachievable or are there yards that offer this? Be amazing if it did have a school so some facilities...but Id rather my horses were happy first, thats paramont and really that comes down to turnout. Help please!

It depends on where not all yards offer that but usually there is at least one yard that will, I’m unfamiliar with Perthshire area, but I used to live near edinburgh and can think of a few near Peebles/ Edinburgh that may be able to accommodate your needs. There’s Thornton livery near rosewell, they do grass livery or Stabled, Edinburgh equestrian centre near Dalkeith, loads of land there so I would think they could possibly offer you something and mount skip gorebridge? All relatively big yards as in plenty of people there but I also am inclined to say they’re not super busy yards. If my memory serves me right EEC has over 100 liveries? But they’re all spread out and there stables aren’t split into 3 completely different areas miles away from each other so it seems like a relatively quiet yard, at least it seemed so whenever I visited my friend there. There are quite a few other livery yards near Edinburgh but some don’t do grass livery (and some id avoid) but these are the only ones I can think that may be most suited.

There is also swanston livery that I think may be suitable but they’ve always got a huge massive waitlist that it’s near impossible to get on with one horse let alone two

Alternatively you could have a look on places like gumtree/ preloved/ Facebook all those sites as sometimes people advertise private fields for rent. My friend found a nice field for her two on gumtree where she’s put a field shelter in too.

As I say I’m unfamiliar with Perthshire though if you’re looking there I’m not too sure.

There are a good few in Perthshire, worth posting on the local fb pages. Have you factored in the Edinburgh by-pass? You can be held up on that for ages in the rush hours.

If your planning on living in Perthshire and OH commute to Peebles, that's a fair haul each day, but I understand why you'd pick Perthshire to live :) Peebles btw is nice too, with lots of liveries.

Yards:

Edinburgh Equestrian loved it there, but as another poster has pointed out, the bypass can easily add 45 to an hour during rush hour to/from the yard though you soon will find ways around it sometimes it's just one big car park. The livery there is pretty much DIY, ours lived out, around 200+ acres fantastic hacking, and the yards Poultry, Pickledirt and Home farm are spread out. It is a nice place.

Swanston - Just outside Edinburgh: ace live out, hard to get stabling. Huge waiting list. We have friends there who swear by it.

Little Ochiltree - near Broxburn - we are there now. Lovely little yard, good hacking, near SNEC. Around 40 horses. A mix of DIY / full livery. Don't do live out; turn in / out daily.

R&R Sport Horses - new yard opening up near Dollar. Run by Regan McHardy, find him on Facebook.

Babbithill - great yard toward Falkirk, so maybe heading in the wrong direction for you. All year turn out. Full Livery.

There are many other yards, but as you say, quite a wide area, Temple is lovely also, but I don't know their livery setup.
