Hi guys,
I have a naughty boy, who I ride in a martingale as he has a habit of deciding when he's had enough of working we'll argue, he'll throw his head around and buck and bronk much as a naughty 21yo can!!

Though more recently I've noticed that he likes having his head between his knees. I don't ride on a particulary short rein (always getting told to tighten them!!) so it's not like he's not got enough stretch. But now I'm constantly fighting for his head and it unseats me when he throws his head down.

Is there anything other than daisy reins that could help? I don't want it to seem that I can't control a vet horse!!! Silly horsey.

I didn't think of that. I'm sure it is, it's the same one he's had for about 2 years now and he hasnt changed shape, he's not back sore at all. But it might be worth getting the saddler out?

have you had his teeth done?
I would also check his saddle - a lot can happen in 2 years, especially with a veteran.

Especially if its yours and your seeing him every day. Sounds odd but tiny changes easily go unoticed and build up to bigger changes over a 2 year period. Veterans in particular can be prone to muscle wastage under the saddle area which could cause pinching.

I would certainly get his saddle checked, you may not think he has changed shape but they do and because you see them every day you don't notice it because it happens slowly over a period of time. Putting his head between his knees sounds like he is trying to release something.
Good luck
