Which lunging aid to people prefer???

I want a good aid for lunging that will improve Inkys outline and build his back muscles up more. However as he is only 32" tall i am going to have to get something specially made so i want to get the best thing.

Any thoughts?

chambon for me out of the two- the chambon has no limit to how far down the horse can stretch in it and you can always put a figure of 8 bandage on if you want the reminder round the quarters to keep them active.

I use the draw rein arrangement thing and it works very well on my mare, she really stretches down with it - not sure if it would work on a 32" miniature though, I guess it's worth a try especially as it's so cheap to try.

can you explain please exactly how the figure 8 bandage goes (where it attaches etc)? I have the same question as Stinkbomb (but my horse is a bit bigger!). I can borrow a Chambon and don't want to fork out for a Pessoa!

figure of 8 bandage goes around the quarters, crosses at the wither and then around the chest of the horse.

it helps keep the horse focussed on what his body is doing and really helps to improve the hindleg connection without any pressure on the mouth.

you can also just put the bandage around the quarters and tie onto the roller without going around the chest if you want- a long tail banadage works best.

I don't particularly like a chambon, I find it encourages a horse to go on the forehand, even when it is being sent forward. I like the pessoa, I also like lunging with two reins. Both options really help the horse to work in a 'correct' frame and develop topline and core muscles :)

It shouldn't be too hard to rig up a chambon small enough for your little chap, and it is a seriously fantastic tool, but you have to use it properly or you can end up just lunging badly and achieving nothing. If your chap goes on the forehand then you aren't doing it correctly. There is a book you can get which explains it all - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Understanding-Chambon-Elizabeth-Launder/dp/0851314392.

I much prefer the chambon to the pessoa too as it doesn't put the pressure on the mouth. As an alternative to a bandage, a bungee works well around the back end and it also has clips for attaching to the roller.

Useful info for me too. thanks everyone. I'm going to go with the chambon (which I can borrow) and a bungie in a girth sleeve (to prevent rubs) round the back of his legs and attached to the roller. And 2 lunge lines.
Have ordered that book Angelbones suggested for 12p from Amazon!

As mentioned to Angelbones, think it's time Understanding the Chambon was re-issued if people find it useful. Not so many around I dont think?
