Pessoa lunging aids?!

I have just ordered a pessoa lungeing kit, as I have been told that it is very useful. However, someone has just informed me that if you put it on your horse straight away you can damage their muscles very severely?

Opinions on these kits and how can I begin to use it gradually?

Read the instructions with it, make sure you're on the 'gentlest' setting, that it's not too tight, and work for short periods of time to begin with. I warm up on both reins without it fixed to the bit (or side rings on the cavesson if I'm not using a bridle) and then do a few minutes, walk and trot, on both reins. Cool down as for warm up.

You are very unlikely to do any damage if you use it sensibly, and ANY piece of kit can cause damage if used inappropriately! Have a look on youtube as there are videos on how to fit and use
