I had my 2yo colt gelded this morning. He has a Pet-Id passport, it is the first time I have noticed that the passport does not contain the Certificate of Castration page. I called Pet-Id and was informed that they do not include it as the sex of the horse is recorded as Male or Female. They advised it is not required.

In the past I, and others, have found this information vital when a gelding has displayed ‘riggy’ behaviour. Knowing when and at what age a colt is gelded and also that both testicles, associated structures and tissue were present and removed.

I am going to write to Pet-Id and DEFRA to stress the importance of this information.

What are your thoughts? Is it important? Would you expect it to present in an equine passport?

Thanks for reading

Yes it's important!! Good on you writting to them!
It's thing like that , which means people can lie when selling or you could even be given the wrong passport (happened to me thankfully I got right one in end)
If they refuse to listen I say start a partition!!
What if some one who was buying there first horse was given a rig or some thing only gelded 2 month!!

Thank you for the replies so far. Its interesting to know other passports do not have the certificate of castration included too.

I have mainly delt with WPCS passports so was unaware that it was not standard in other breed and basic ID passports. IMO it makes the document more professional, by having the vet sign and stamp the typed out decleration that they have "removed both testicles, associated structures and length of the adjoining spermatic cord" , rather than find a space and write it in.

Just my view though.

The WPCS passports are the only ones ive ever seen with it in, ive had ones from the AHS, DPS, Pet ID, VHS, HPA & obviously the WPCS.
