Peter Charles

[ QUOTE ]
Yes, Peter Charles is in hampshire. Don't forget Tim Stockdales grey mare - Corlando?

[/ QUOTE ]

He's based just outside Medstead Grange I think, definately Alton way

I think he's a good rider

BUT I think he's got an almighty cheek to try and sneak back onto a british team

he deserted the UK team like a rat deserting a sinking ship

and now he's crawling back like a snake

I don't like rats much and I don't like snakes either

I watched Peter win the Hickstead Derby for his three consecuitive wins on Corrada. I think it was such a shame he lost the ride on that horse. As a team they were magic.

I would love to see him doing well again - regardless for what country. I think all professional riders have to consider their career financially - it is not the easiest sport in which to make a fortune. I am sure that a change of nationality is not a decision taken lightly. I think his parent's are Irish so he was eligible for Irish nationality as well.

Peter has been backed by British people whilst riding for Ireland. Lord and Lady Harris are one of his owners. I think all what happened with Cian has left a bitter taste in a few peoples mouths. Jessica Chesney was another that voiced her disaproval. I for one am very pleased he is coming back over to us, i shouldn't think it will be long before he is back on teams. Rockstar is a fantastic horse and he has always been able to produce horses that other riders would possibly have struggled with.

According to the H&H site, the last paper edition of the magazine (15th Feb.) has a exclusive interview with Peter Charles.
I would love if any of you can post here the guidelines of that interview (how is going his recovery, plans for future, horses, etc.), because I'm from Portugal and the magazine is not distributed here. I've checked the main stores here and no one receives H&H.
I'm a great fan of british showjumping and Peter is one of my favourite riders.
Thanks in advance!!!!!

Yes, in the last lines of that article it referres to an interview to be included on the paper edition of 15th. Feb. I few moments ago I saw a german site that tells Peter has a new sponsor that is going to support him for the next years.

From the Irish Independent: BRITISH Chef d'Equipe, Derek Ricketts, said yesterday that Peter Charles' decision to return to compete for Great Britain was good news.

"We are very pleased to have him back," said the team manager. "He has a lot of experience and hopefully he will have horses suitable for the team."

Born in Liverpool of Irish parents, Charles competed for Britain for much of his early career but declared for Ireland for the 1992 Olympic Games and then, wearing the green jacket, took the individual European title at St Gallen in Switzerland in 1995.

Just over a year later however he suffered a crippling fall from his top ride, the Belgian-bred La Ina, while competing in Monterrey, Mexico a few weeks after winning the lucrative du Maurier Classic at Spruce Meadows in Canada.

With a broken arm, nose, cheekbone and ribs and severe bruising to his neck and head and with his co-ordination badly affected he fought a long battle back to good health but returned to become the anchor-man of the Irish side during a highly successful period at the end of the 1990's.

Despite another fall last autumn the 47-year-old is clearly not ready to retire, but Charles' departure from the Irish squad marks the end of an era.

Meanwhile, Irish team manager Robert Splaine revealed that the team competing at the European Championships will not line out at Dublin Horse Show one week earlier.

"We've got to do everything to ensure Olympic qualification so those going to Mannheim will not be competing in Dublin," he insisted.

Thank you very much for this article on Peter.
I think that the selection for the british team, as the team director said, is a question of horses. If Peter has good horses he will be selected, other way, if he only achieve the level of last 3 or 4 years, his chanches are very low.
I had the information (from a spanish site - masdecaballos.com) that he will be competing at the sunshine tour but until now he didn't appear on the start lists.
I'll be searching for news on Peter and if I get something I'll keep all people informed.

Thanks again for the information. I've checked their site and there are no subscriptions for Horse available for my country.

I will check my regular point of sale, but I'm not with high expectations...
I will be in London in April, but unfortunately...before the 26th of April!

Can any of you update me on the headlines of the interview with Peter Charles on the last number of Horse, please.
Unfortunatelly, here in Portugal I don't have access to that magazine...

Thanks in advance for your cooperation!
