Just received this link in an email from the local riding club. It's a petition to equal the number of bridleways in the country (currently approx 20,000 miles) up to the same level as footpaths (approx 91,000).

Whilst I personally think that it would be difficult to do this due to the requirements of bridlepaths versus footpaths, I do agree that riders need more opportunities to be able to ride with little/no road work and that in doing so we may be able to lower the amount of encounters between cars and horses, thus accidents involving cars and horses.
