just to add to the depths of my gloom.

Do me a favour, don't start a debate about it guys, just if you hate it sign it, and if you don't, don't.

After losing my wonderful horse yesterday, all I needed today was to read this.

sorry for your loss :(
hope your feeling patient because im sorry to prob sound really thick but what is vivisection ?

assuming its not very nice but ive never heard of it and can't find any info on the link ,im sure/hope :o im not the only one that doesn't know

It is cutting up animals for experiments while they are still alive.

No it isn't!

It is used to cover any experiment/proceedure on living animals -usually by an injection or taking blood samples.
This may be as simple as giving a rabbit 10 mls of a Hartmans solution and checking it's temperature doesn't rise over 4 hours -the standard quality control test for any batch of IV fluid.

Any cutting is done under anaesthesia - by law ( at least in this country.)

What's the point of having a go at me? I just didn't intend to get into a debate. A person asked what it was. I answered succinctly, you disagree, fine, tell her different.

Just if you hate the idea of dogs being treated that way, sign the petition, and if you don't don't, was all I said.

After what happened to my horse on Sunday I actually don't give a toss what anyone thinks about me, my opinions, my posting skills, or any thing else.

Go ahead and debate til the cows come home. Why would I care?

It's just a petition, my point was, I was only offering that chance to those that agree.

That's all. Really.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

But i cannot sign the petition. vivsection is one of the reasons medical science is where it is today. Signing that petition would be signing off on thousands of peoples death certificates.

I'm another that can't sign. I've just done my ethics assignment on animal research (found it very enlightening)some of the tests only need 10 animals instead of 100's. While it is unfortunate that animals are still required to further medical advances (for both humans and animals) until alternatives that provide the same if not better quality of results are found then they will still be used.

Though some of the tests which use animals have been proven by several people to be ineffective and contribute little to no real value.

Erm ok- no one had a go at anybody, just pointed out that you can not say "NO DEBATE" when you are making snap judgements without being willing to go and educate yourself with the FACTS.

To be fair skewbald again you did give incorrect facts to someone to encourage them to sign the petition. Lexiehdb was right to pull you up on it.

Vivisection isnt cutting animals up whilst they are still alive.

And anyone that accesses medical aid, even for something as simple as a headache, and then opposes vivisection is to an extent a hypocrite.

Have to agree with ThePinkPony. None of the life saving and life-improving (I mean in a medical sense here!) drugs available today would be on the market if it was not for animal trials.
And the red tape and training involved in animal testing is immense!

TPP has pretty much said everything I would like to say only he/she hasn't ranted like I would so thank you :)

I will not be signing the petition for the reasons already stated (which seem patently obvious to me but hey)

O and just to be totally clear, veterinary meds are also tested on animals so if you've ever medicated your horse or dog you had better think carefully about whether you want to sign, never mind whether you have given your child Calpol.

SA - Out of interest - do you check the medication / face cream / shampoo etc etc etc etc have never been tested on animals before you buy or use it??

Anyone else that has signed the petition? Do you?
