Petition to ban equestrian sport

childrens mental health is affected by doing equestrian sports???
so all those kids I taught that challenged difficult behaviours and managed to get through to some autistic kids is mentally damaging??

I can name at least 50 teen's/young adults that would have ended up in gangs/young offenders/prison or god forbid dead had it not been for horses getting them off the streets and teaching them some discipline, this petition is just ridiculous!

'course it is - look what all this riding has done to Nevzorov! :D
Lol..maybe we are missing his genius?

Agree^^^^^^^^^

I haven't taken much notice of the petition, however was both mesmerized and horrified by the video.
Unfortunately - as tends to happen when someone is trying to prove a point, he has chosen some truly terrible riding and horsemanship (if I dare to call it that) as his examples, fortunately not everyone rides like that, and anyone who does deserves to be shot IMO. The action of the bits I found very interesting, but the examples of horses jaws falling off etc was just ludicrous and scaremongering for the non-horsey fraternity. Unfortunately to some extent I agree with him, you see rather too many riders and handlers with no respect or empathy for their animals, and something should be done about those people, thankfully a hell of a lot of people are not like that.

Well I think it's ridiculous and would give an impression to many people who are not in the horsey world that us riders all gnaw at our horses mouths and whip them til they bleed. Stupid :D

I do think banning horse riding is a very good idea.

I would'nt feel so guilty about not riding then. :D

If this man can teach my horse to read latin, with understanding, heck if he can treach her to read English fluently, with understanding, then I will agree to stop riding her. If not then I will offer to assess him under the Mental Health Act, should he ever visit my neck of the woods!
Out of interest, what is the scientific proof of those pictures actually being true representations of the effects of the bit? Or this another 'pretty' simulation?

Well I never, amazing how some film clips cut together on YouTube can create such an effect, nothing new in that on this forum though, it happens from time to time.

However, it is very interesting to see such bad examples of riding in obviously televised equestrian sport.

Personally I don't ride with a bit, this is a personal choice arrived at through researching the history of the use of bits, and seeing similar research into the effects. The truth is though, the damage is done by the hands that hold the rein.

My opinion is that many horses are used in equestrian sports before they have a proper education in the basics. Too little foundation before specialization if you will.

I feel that people today are in too much of a rush to get young horses bitted and doing sports too soon. You should be able to ride in all gaits, and be able to control your horse without resorting to a bit, if I can do it anyone can.

Obviously, I'm not in favour of banning any equestrian sports but I think people should take the time to consider whether they or the horse are ready and prepared for what they aim to do.
