I decided to dump NFU and go with Petplan and selected "yes" when it came to the question "does your horse display any vicious behavious, vices or abnormal behaviour" as she cribs in the stable which is considered a "vice" although personally, I beg to differ.

When I pressed the button to go onto the next page, it came up with a message that I would now only be on Injury Only Temporary Cover saying:

"Details of your Injury Only Temporary Cover and your suspended full annual policy will be sent to you by post within 7 working days. Please complete and return the proposal form on the reverse of the letter which details all the information we require to underwrite your full annual policy."

Did I make a mistake being honest that she cribs? I don't want the insurance if it's going to be injury only.

Has anyone else ever had this from PP if their horse cribs???

I think it will only be until you give them full details of the cover that it will be injury only. I think that when you complete the proposal form and return it you will get full cover, but they may exclude any illness related to cribbing...

This cover is only for the first 14 days, after that you will get full cover. Well that's how I understand it to be, it's standard for every new policy you are not covered for vet fees for the first 14 days.

Most insurers will only cover injury for the first 14 days, it's to stop people having their horse diagnosed with something then insuring it straight away in order to claim. (Aka fraud)

As Holly Hocks said I would think they will give you full cover once the cribbing situation has been clarified, although they are likely to exclude certain things like ulcers and maybe even colic.

Sometimes, if your horse has issues, it's better to stick with your existing insurer, on an ask no questions, tell no lies basis!

The thing that worries me though, is that it didn't take me to any screen to enter my bank details, just straight to that screen saying about the temporary cover. Her cribbing has never caused her any harm, she does does it if she is treated from the hand or when she's bored which is why I turn her out as much as possible and have bought her a trickle net. I may ring them tomorrow and ask if they consider cribbing one of the vices.

I will see if they exclude anything major and if they do, I'll stick with NFU. LOL, I've not dumped NFU officially (in my mind I have) so can always stick with them as I did manage to get my monthly payment £2.00 cheaper than what my renewal originally was going to be. :P
