My pony has had a large lump under his jaw for nearly 2 months now- he has had 5 weeks of antibiotics and bute and has been in for xrays on his head showing not that much tbh, apart from at a guess from the vet the beginnings of a mintue infection in jaw/ tooth. He has now had a week and a half off medication the lump has not gone but had subsided marginally till tonight. I will therefore get the vet back out tomoro! Yay more bills. :)

I am insured with petplan but would you say this is a dental condition or not, I would say yes but then the vets still dnt really no what it is? Could be a foreign body or anything still? If it is a dental condition I have to provide 2 years of dental examinations as proof of him aving them checked. I have had his teeth done by an EDT once as I have only had him a year! Does an EDT still count, I hope so as they are more qualified than vets with teeth?? Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Your pony is being treated by the vet, ie; drugs and xrays. Therefore, he's having veterinary treatment which should be covered.
I had a 3 year old that had swelling in the upper jaw, 5 courses of antibotics didn't resolve the problem either. Her problem was a dead tooth which had died in her gum as a yearling (most likely caused by a kick from an escaped stallion ), the vet hospital extracted the tooth. Unfortunately, my ex, who owned her didn't have insurance. I ended up paying £1800 in vet bills which would have been covered by insurance.
Put your claim forms in, Petplan have been brilliant with another horse I have, very easy to deal with and quick to settle.
Good luck in getting to the bottom of your pony's problem.

Thank you so much for the reply. You have put my mind at rest over claiming. Hes going back into the vets this week to have more xrays and some radioactive fluid injected to try to isolate the problem.
