I have just looked into insuring my new, nearly 2 yr old horse with Petplan and it says your horse should be wormed, vaccinated, and dentals as part of the conditions.

So my question is if I take out this policy do I immediately need to have his teeth done (never been done and have him vaccinated) We are currently trying to halter break him so doing these things are currently impossible!

Can I still take out the policy?

ring them and explain and ask for advice (and written confirmation if they do say its ok for now and you take out the policy).

That way theres no confusion or doubt.

Basically what it means in the Ts & Cs for that, is should you have any illnesses resulting from a dental problem, something your horse should be vaccinated against or problems arising from worms you will not be covered.

You can still get your horse insured with them though :)

I'd be very honest with them, they might give you an exclusion that anything that could have been prevented by doing the above won't be covered, but that's better than them using it as an excuse to get out of paying for anything. Ime its not like they check the records, I've known horses that were treated for the claim by a different vet than the one who had previously done jabs & they never contacted previous vet.

might keep quiet.. he will have his jabs in a couple mths and have his teeth checked next in feb 2013......... if they gonna put exclusions on it i might as well not tell them
