Phantom pregnancy?

Whilst Z was here Lil spent a nice amount of time humping him. I noticed her teats were changing throughout the week and today I have come home to find she is leaking milk.

Is this a phantom pregnancy (could the pup have triggered this?)

I am currently reading up on it, but any first hand experiences would be greatfully receieved.
 
I have never heard of that (not the phantom, a pup triggering it) when was she last in season? I have only had experience of phantoms after seasons, normally when they have been mated but not caught or were in the presence of an entire but not mated. Some bitches will phantom anyway without males around, but its still to do with hormones after a season. I wouldnt think the pup caused it...her humping him was just showing dominance over him. Terriers are good at phantoms, they seem quite prone to it compared to other breeds, they even manage to make themselves look pregnant (tummy wise).
 
Her last season was in the last 2/3 months so she shouldnt be due.

There is very definite white/creamy milk leaking from her teats, I have felt her belly and nothing untowards there, just two long lines running from back to front, all swollen up under her teats.
 
Yes well in that case her season time matches with the fact she is having a phantom now (or has been since her season but is now noticeable because she thinks she is nearly due to whelp and is prducing milk)...it was prob nearer the 3 month ago mark ;) Down the vets tomorrow, she will prob need a hormone jab before she gets any more confuddled.
 
The timing does sound as if it is a typical phantom. Unfortunately once they have one they often become a regular occurrence, so might be worth discussing spaying with the vet (though I'm loathe to suggest that in view of the other thread;)).
 
Our first rottie had phantoms regularly til we had her spayed. She got the swollen and leaky teats and would carry her favourite toy everywhere, noone was allowed to touch it unless she, very carefully, gave it to you to look after!!
 
Well her teats have gone right down for a start, no more milk leakage- she's going in the vets on Monday as the receptionist didn't seem to think it was an emergency, had to sign with a new vets since I moved, hope the new one is good :s does that sound about right? Or are we to take her for her second emergency vet visit :D her first was when her tooth fell out lol
 
Will probably be alright, just keep an eye on her. If she starts drinking a lot, or has any sort of discharge then get back on to the vet but hopefully she will be fine. Strange her teats have gone down so quickly, they usually stay like that for a few days, hopefully that means its not a serious phantom.
Emergency or not, quite surprised your vet couldn't see her today, I can usually get an appointment same day for mine even if its something quite minor.
 
I took Bella straight away, in that I threw her in the car and phoned them on the way :o but then I am paranoid after what happened with D and was doubly paranoid that she'd had some sort of immaculate conception or somebody had let her be caught (I do let other people walk her). She was swollen for a good week at least though.

Just watch her, as Mattilda said, they can 'mother' objects, it may look funny and cute but my old girl decided to mother a balled-up pair of tights, ate them and had to have major surgery to remove them.
 
The new vet is one who is at Pets At Home, I can only assume thats why they are so busy as my old vets was the same as yours, it would sometimes be late but I could always get in. Mind you they only do appts from 9-11 2-3and 5-6 - I assume they do ops in the rest of the time?
 
Little update:

Nice (handsome) male vet saw Lil and said there's nowt to worry about. He gave me the option of treatment to make her dry up - which in his opinion she doesn't need (so I didn't go for it) he advised me once she had dried up to bring her up and have her spayed, which I'll do in the next few weeks. Panic over :)

Our old JRxSpringer (an early designer dog :p) came into milk for two kittens but dried up once she realised they were no longer interested.
More recently a friend's chihuahua had a phantom because her owner was pregnant - doh!
 
Our new girl was having a phantom/false pregnancy when we got her. Apart from scaring us to death (- I even ordered vet bed in case it was real and started looking up colostrum etc) and dealying her vaxes and neutering (just in case it was the real thing) it all dried up nicely without treatment. Now spayed so end of problem.
