I dont often venture in here so please be gentle!
Our 8 1/2 year old lab is having a phantom pregnancy, nesting her bed up, takes her toys to bed and mouthing them, wineing all the time hiding on her bed, will not settle .......
so how long will it last? or should that be how long before I take her to the vets for a hormone jab? do they still give hormone jabs (about 20 years ago we had a dog that had them and I can remember that was, what we did with her)
I have cut her food down a little to see if that helps,
She has never had pups, is not spade, last season was feb/march time,
Any advice?
Please!

I would at least call the vets to have a chat with them because they can get depressed very quickly and start to drop weight. Sorry, I can't help much beyond that because I have fairly limited experience, although I seem to remember a friend's dog getting hormone jabs about 5 years ago so it's possible that they still give them.

I would just keep an eye on her for now as long as she isn't producing milk she will hopefully get over it in a few days. If you feel she is getting distressed then have a word with your vet. I would also speak to your vet about having her spayed, the fact that she is having phantoms does mean she is more likely to have a pyometra in the future.
