Just reading on the H&H main page report for today and it says philip dutton has been disqualified for his horses boots being too heavy? Not a good weekend for the americans hey
yeah says his horses boots were over 500g... is it because they'd pick up their legs higher? Like they used to train hackneys etc by putting weights round thier fetlocks?
blumen hell, that seems to have slipped the publicity the radar, I did get a result on google but very limited!!! I am going to weight pickles boots see how much they weigh just to see how much that horse was carrying!
"American Phillip Dutton, who finished 16th in the individual round on Connaught, was disqualified from the competition when he contravened the FEI horse welfare ruling, introduced in February this year, that horse boots should weigh no more than 500g."
lots of riders use the weighted boots here, i can give anyone who is dying to know a few names. and with hackneys (and american 'gaited' horses as well as with showjumpers in the past, the boots were used in training when ever the horse worked so when it was about to gointo the ring to compete the booots were imediately removed the sudden loss of weight mde them pick their legs up higher.
the current trend believes that you put the boots on immediately before you jump, done up very tight on the horses hind legs and are also known as pinch boots because the combintion of weight and tightness does that to the horses hind leg making him pick his feet up higher to try and kick them off, here is a picture of a typical response
personally i think their use should be discoouraged in general.
