He is a absolutely amazing horse to be around which was exactly what i wanted. He arrived friday evening and though it is very early days he has been brilliant. I have been doing alot of groundwork with him and am aiming to ride in the next week, the weather is terrible here at the moment. I keep looking at him and wondering how i got so lucky!!

Sorry for the photos being abit big!!
He has been out of racing awhile and last winter was basically roughed off with some hacking and afew days following the local hunt.

Ive bought him mainly for hacking with a view for doing other things next year when we have both got to know each other and i can figure out what he may be good at. Hes a very laid back horse and listens very carefully to me already. He is very interested in everything that is happening but is not at all spooky and seems very keen to please. The saddle fitter thought he was the best thing since sliced bread!!
By the way, does anyone on here know anything about rainbow quest, he is reds grandad and in the photo looks amazingly similar, even got the same white socks.

Another question...sorry! Its hard to tell from a photo but what sort of physical condition would you say he was in. I think he still has quite good muscle tone especially on his front and back legs (typical racer i guess) but as per usual with these horses quite weak topline, what do you guys think?

He is lacking topline but once he starts to work more rounded this will come, the other thing is feed - top spec feed balancer is amazing for putting on topline whilst in workl Typically race horses are not asked to collect themselves up so develop differnet muscles as you've said on legs and shoulder.

Thanks for that..its what i thought to. Bearing in mind he has done very little work lately and none in the last 8 weeks i dont think he is in bad shape though!! The saddle fitter was quite impressed with his over all shape and had a good look at his back (he does alot of back work also) and though he thinks his topline is a little weak his withers arent too high and he has good shoulders

QR: Rainbow Quest was a superstar, he died not that long ago, last year or the year before. Is he grandad on sire or dam side? if dam side he is/was known for being a very good broodmare sire. Only issue are the Rainbow Quest knees that can be not the best! He had a great temperment and passed it onto his progeny.

Rainbow quest is his grandad on his dads side. He has a very good pedigree though that isnt why i bought him! He is just such a nice horse to be around and that is far more important for me than anything. It is fascinating to see his relatives though. There is a great site which traces the ancestry back and has photos of alot too. That was when i noticed the similarity with rainbow quest and my boy. Ive also noticed that alot of them going right back have lived well into there late 20's or early 30's.
