I took the photos on my mobile hence the poor quality, plus it's very hard to take a photo of his hoof whilst you're holding it up!

What happened? PF did something like that to herself pulling her shoe off in a trailer. She was a bit unlevel for a while until the horn grew enough and she was reshod.

Poor ali, should heal ok , its not cracked/broken that far up by the looks of it ? ?

It's ripped off as far up as where the clenches usually are, so I think he'll have to have no hind shoes for a while. I've tried contacting my farrier several times but he tends to not answer his phone at the weekends

It just looks like the hoof is chipping back... It is what they do naturaly if they are overdue for a trim. Not a problem.

Ah, so the same thing! PF had knocked her hock as well, so once vet had established it wasn't that then yes, I did ride her. She had enough hoof left for a shoe, but there was a space between hoof and shoe for a bit.

You might be O.K. if there is some healthy hoof to nail to, your farrier and use filler on the missing bit. **Healing vibes** on way.

This is what PF's foot looked like after farrier rasped it back a a bit and put shoe back on (only one nail on the outside)
