my horse has caught his coronet band ( with a huge hole and long ways very deep vet been out anibiotics, penicilin etc, healing i would love to see your pics on healing looked very deep and looking green a friend says its scabbing over, its in such a bad awkward place suprised hes not lame the heat has gone blacksmith said its a corker no idea how hes done it hes barefoot , the injury has healed from the inside all of a sudden, so happy with that just would love to see your pictures and experiances please thanks you

mine had a cut to his coronet band on his hind foot. it was a quite small cut about 1 inch wide but quite deep, an upward flap, and seemed to scab over quickly and heal, however I noticed that the scab was horny, seemed odd and just kept on growing. Never really healed so I took him to the vets, it appeared that some of the hoof stem cell tissue was growing outwards, so it would in effect form a new ergot at the front. He was operated on by my vet. a small deep round hole cut out of the coronet band to remove all the hoof wall stem cells, the first time he was operated on it grew back, so the vet did it again, a wider hole, that healed perfectly. So I would suggest you keep a close eye on the tissue that is forming, is it really hoof tissue, or good flesh? Never given him a problem, he was never lame on it, just would not heal correctly
