I have been deliberately leaving my ponio's feathers alone since early september - I haven't washed them at all to let the natural oils build up in the hope it'll help prtect him from MF this winter.

I don't want to wash them really, but he is having his piccie taken for a magazine next week and i want him looking his best - he has two white feathery socks. Is there any way I can get them whiter without washing them? Or do I give in and wash them? they're not that dirty, just a little bit off-white!!

Suggestions?

Ooh yes - you can get it from feedshops - SLB or Cooks should have some. Just whack loads of it on his white bits and he'll look like new

Yeah, it should do. Or, you might try a grooming block on the stains first, and see if that will get them out, and then chalk them.

If the stains REALLY won't come out, chat up the photographer and ask him if he can touch up the shots of ponio's feet to make the feathers look whiter!

*if at first you don't succeed, cheat*

I would go with chalk, followed by chatting up the photographer! Hope it goes well, I'm sure you and Murphy will look fab!

Just make sure you have a 'Plan B' in case the photographer is a She!

OK, will attached ponio with chalk, and have low cut top ready just in case I need to chat up the photographer!

He's fully clipped (apart from his legs and face) and a bit dusty at the mo, would it be too cold to give him a bath this weekend?

Chalk is excellent

Also, try running a baby wipe over the top of the stains - don't scrub if you want to keep the greases underneath etc.
Which mag are you going to be in?

Please use chalk sparingly on long feathers as it can look dry and take the silkyness away! You could try just washing the ends of the feathers with warm water and whitning shampoo (purples good) avoiding skin contact. Flannels are good for this and towels for drying. If you do decide to wash you can apply pig oil or baby oil to his legs to help protect them (after the photos of course). Personally I have found that chalk does not work that well on long hair as the stains often show again when its brushed out

I'll maybe try the chalk out at the weekend and see if they look white and if not maybe shampoo the ends.

I just hope he behaves himself and doesn't slobber all over the photographer!!
