Physio for your horse - how often?

I have a 4yo full ID which I bought in May. I had the physio to him soon after I bought him, not because I thought there was anything wrong but I wanted her to check him over to make sure that she thought all was OK with him. She didnt find any areas of concern and took a number of measurements from him so that we can track his progress. I intend to get him checked every 4 months for the first year so that if any problem areas arise we can deal with them before they become an issue.

At the moment about every 8 weeks. She has been on a routine, with exercises as she is a young horse with good paces and went a bit unlevel and sore in the back. She is ok now but physio is coming out regularly to keep an eye on her.

I prefer the prevention is better than cure method with lameness anyway.

Mine are checked by Jenny Hadland every 4 weeks. Sometimes they can go a few months without needing a treatment but I always get then checked so any niggles can be caught early. I see an osteo myself regularly as I compensate for an old injury and I'm very aware of not making the horses sore.

I started appts with mine when we were about to go to riding club camp a year or two after I got him as wanted to make sure he was fit and well for 3 intensive days of flatwork, showjumping and cross country - he's not the most agile of ponies (didn't bother about myself though!). And then since then it's 6 monthly checkups. I tend to do them at the end of winter (to spot any problems caused from winter stiffness, hooning around in deep bog like field) and then again at end of summer (hard ground etc). Beyond that I will call her for an appt if feel that he's off/uncomfortable - though not had to do that yet.

my mare is 18 and iv had her checked once a year for the last 4 years, theres never much wrong with her but it makes me feel better that i have her checked
