The sequence of pics of William FP's horse pecking on landing then getting back up and carrying on, surely thats a horse fall.....??? I thought that if their shoulder or hindquarters hit the floor hit counted as a horse fall and therefore retirement/elimination???
 
Havent seen the pic. But yes it does class as a horse fall.
Winston fell in the trakehner at aston but he landed in the ditch, iw as told this was a horse fall event tho his shoulders didnt touch the ground. I guess they would call it that he was trapped??

Anyway will look at pic later.. Which horse was it?

Interesting if it does show a horse fall I wonder if any of the lower placed riders will appeal their position and for William to be Eliminated

Personally, had my horse taken that fall I wouldn't have continued at all.


I would be interested to see whether anything is lodged and the outcome.
 
Totally looks like one, though I guess it is now too late to appeal?! Goes to show you should always look at the professional pics of an event

And also, how balanced is WFP, especially considering how tall he is? Hats off to him, he barely moves through all of that!
 
no doubt a horse fall in my eyes as well. both shoulder and hip make contact with the ground...

edit to add from the rule book ....

"A horse is considered to have fallen when at the same time both its shoulder and
quarters have touched either the ground or the obstacle and the ground or when it
is trapped in a fence in such a way that it is unable to proceed without assistance or
is liable to injure itself."

The rules for horsefall are shoulders and quarters have touched the ground. So I guess this does not count as in my opinion neither shoulders not hindquarters have. I think for a horsefall to happen horse has to go on side.

I have done this type of thing tonnes out hunting. All can happen very quickly and the recovery can also be very quick.
 
Having spoken to someone on the ground, the horse's shoulder definitely did not touch the ground, and WFP thought he'd only stumbled to his knees until he saw the pics as it all happened so quickly. Hence not a horse fall.

I wouldn't have been worried about carrying on, as it just looks like the horse banked the fence, and he SJed fine the next day. I think the pics make it look much more dramatic than it felt!
 
As Santa145 has said both the quarters and the shoulder need to touch the ground or jump at the same time for it to be considered a horse fall.
This looks to be a very close call & as a fence judge it is a difficult one to call. The photo has been taken from the wrong side - you would need to be on the other side to see if they have both touched the ground.
Unlike lec I think that the quarters have touched the ground but it looks likely to me that the right shoulder did not.
I'm sure a lot of other riders wouldn't have been able to help the horse out as much and as a result would have had a horse fall.
 
William discussed this with me on monday - so please don't all get on your high horses and say "i wouldnt have continued" because he didn't even know it was that bad until he saw the video of the round - he said it felt like he pecked and slipped. Having been in a similar but not identicle situation, i know what i felt didnt feel at all bad - but then saw the film back and was amazed at what I saw.
Also the shoulders are not touching the ground - both the quarters and the shoulders have to touch to count as a horse fall!
He did say he expected some hoo ha about this!

I am not getting on my high horse, just my opinion that had I known the extent of the fall, I wouldn't continue. I can't see any high horses but it looks a little more than a peck as well.

To late though they have to get their complaints in 1/2 hour after the final results are up, after that is too late.
 
Lol you're spot on there!! I think that's a reason he was so bitter about certain person the following day!
But like I said he was not aware at all of the extent of the incident until he watched it over - and i dont think you can understand how small something like that can feel until you've experienced it - which i did the other week and it was not at all bad what i felt, but looked awful on the tape!
Also like I said before it is NOT a horse fall as shoulders AND quarters did not touch the ground.

Miss huggy bear - sorry about the 'high horse' statement but I think it is far too easy to judge from watching, being on top feels a whole lot different to someone watching and although you must think " he must have felt that" he honestly only felt a stumble.

Interesting you say that - how would that logic apply to AT? You have been adamant all along she must have known, would you now say that perhaps she didn't?

It does look like more than a peck to me, but I imagine it did happen very fast and if the horse carried on with no problems and he wasn't stopped, I can see why he wouldn't have thought it was anything to worry about.
 
Interestingly I WAS just thinking that! I can only speak from experience but from my own experience when trotting along the road and Rock trod on a stone (so not even as big as breaking down) I felt it immediately and stopped immediately.

However last week when showjumping Bria, she reared bolt upright, landed on the jump and collapsed on landing - it didn't feel like she had done that at all, it felt merely like an oversized jump and a peck but upon watching it over on the video it looked disastrous!

So really, I can't explain why the two felt so different, just that they did lol! Doesn't really help does it lol!!
