I wasn't going to mention your position but it can't change that radically in 5 weeks unless, as pointed out by my instructor this morning, your are sitting better due to recovery from an injury (in my case a smashed coccyx).

With regards to your stirrups, they need to be the correct length for you. Long enough to be able to get your leg around your horse but short enough so that you are not constantly reaching for them. No-one can really tell you if they are the correct length as they need to feel right for you.

wow, you look so much better, dont know what it is but your sitting completly differently! would say she needs alot more topline on her neck, but looking good! :p

and yer ... um iv started lunging with side reins and using my leg ect when riding but not sure what else i can do? dont want to use loads of false aids?
thanks x

Eriskayowner owwwchie, a girl i used to work with did that and i was with her and she had to have gas and air from the paremedics cos she was in so much pain!!

BSJA Position and stirrups look fine espeacially if your comfy, follwoing on her her been naughty post, she defo needs to build up some topline and get rid of the under mucle on her neck i bet shes running cos shes weak and unbalanced would defo get her on the lunge, (just short periods at first). :)

My late-showjumper was a jumper through and through and would just jump. Flatwork was an inconvenience and tedious so he figured out ways of making it more fun! He stargazed a lot and had a hell of a lot of muscle under the neck and it was very difficult to shift. Lots of schooling and perseverance is the answer I'm afraid!

haha i had gas and air when i had my daughter and it made me really sick!!!

As for the lunging yer i would do ten minutes warming up first no side reins first she prob stick her head up but will loosen her joints first make she shes getting her back end underneath her and get her listening so trasistions ffrom your voice. Then after 10 mins put the side reins on, i actually prefer them on the lowers rings rather than up by there withers so there reaching down to them helping them come up over the back but make she there not to tight, you wnat to aim for a long and low outline rather than a bunched up one. the aim of this is to get up coming up over the back and h, again make sure shes engaging her back end and doing trasitions again, you dont just need to canter her around for another 20 mins lots of transitions will help her when you ask her once back in the saddle. Make sure when youve finished you let her stretch without them again, if youve worked her correctly she should try and stretch her neck down after. :)

Yeah! It was only the next morning that I realised what I'd done! Just rest needed really. Still rode a couple of times a week!

When I lunge Jazz I put elasticated side reins on him but going from a girth loop between the legs (like a martingale loop) straight to the bit. I put the clip end on the bit. This helps him to go long and low but doesn't restrict sideways movement. The other thing I came up with was draw reins between the legs (again to a girth loop) up through the bit then knotted to an appropriate length at the poll (and secured out of the way) or taken back to d-rings on a saddle or roller. Long and low is the answer as it will help to loosen her across her back.

OOOh im suprised you managed it although sometimes the adelinine kicks in and you dont realise how bad it is till late.

And yer my old jumping horse was exactly the same and TBH when i first got him at 14 wasnt keen on it either;) but as i got older and had lessons i realised it was a nesssity!! I found a harbrdige really helpfull (on quite loosely as i could get his back end going but he could still go with his head up quite high, but got trained to use it by one of my instuctors. My mum used to make me have weekly dressage lesson but was only allowd fortnghtly jumping lessons!!:D:D Although they were with mary broom so i guess they were alot of money!!!:D

I just want to say i wouldn't ride in side reins. What if she trips up and can't recover her ballance?

Just get an instructor and do lots of stretching work with her, the top line will soon improve.

Glad you are on the mend now from your fall OP

right iv got it thanks guys ill think ill have a lesson next week too :p lol
and when im riding side reins any good or just leave them out? :)
thanks x

No not riding in side reins, there not for riding in can be dangerous. If you do want to ride in something choose something designed for riding in. I suggested a harbridge before but think you posted before i wrote it. There really good, get somebody to help you use it first. Ill probaly get shot down for suggesting but if your going to ride in something id rather it be someting designed for riding in. Remember if shes weak short sessions at first allowing her to stretch down in between and if shes doing some hard schooling give her some breaks in between like a nice mooching hack so its not all work and no play you dont want to make her stiff. Build it up gradually. :)

They must have been very expensive! I didn't really get on with my flatwork instructors, but it was probably as Blackjack was so difficult to get to work properly. One of them rode him (and did his flash up so tight that the dent was still visible 2 hours later) and then proclaimed I would be winning all the dressage in 3 months. Blackjack actually looked like he was going to faint or collapse due to the noseband. I thought if that was the only way to get him to work on a contact then I didn't want any part of that!

That's why I don't fit them as proper side reins and put the fix point as low as possible. Jazz trips for a pastime (and is how I broke my coccyx) but he's never tripped when I've had the side reins positioned as they are. With a low fix point, the horse is very free to move his head to the sides and up-and-down. Very unrestrictive.

Yer i expect they were, i was really lucky as a teenager, Probaly didnt appreciate as much as i should have done!!!!

I was really lucky, my flatwork instructors understood it was jumping flatwork and was an ex eventer so wasnt pushing me to win at dressage. He stripped me into a caverson and plain loose ring snaffle:eek: which was kind of scary as he was mad and i jumped in a pelham with two reins!!! It worked for me though. I was lucky i found a good instructor though!!:)

yeh im lost? im having a mini celebration as todays MY BIRTHDAY wooop woop ;)
her old owner said on her 'rountine thing' that if found strong goes better in market harbrige than stronger bit? dont know if that means anything to anyone? :) x

Happy birthday! Sorry - got kinda sidetracked.

You've mentioned 2 training aids in 1 - a Harbridge and Market Harborough. I'm assuming the latter. I was told to ride BJ in a Market Harborough and found it a total waste of time. It also, I think, just literally pulls the front end in without the back end working.

Harbridge is better for long and low.
