thought i'd share a pic as i mentioned he was 20, a few people thought this was old for hunting, he doesnt look a day over 10! and just so u get a idea how big the black mare is with me (im on the bay!) hes a full 14.2, she's nearly 18hh!http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=388640&l=e2981e9447&id=1378774693

He looks in good condition to me. 20 too old to hunt? Oh dear, I'd better tell that to some of the horses I go out with, I don't think they realise, lol. I wouldn't worry about his age, as long as he feels well and enjoys it. He'll let you know when he's ready to slow down.

phew glad someone agreed!! he's 'one of them that'll go forever' i was aware i had to take it easy as he hasnt been out in 18 months but my GOD i stupidly took my gloves of just b4 we set off, and..well...the blisters between my fingers say it all! i couldnt hold him anymore than what i was he was a tank! a gracefull one at that! the lad on the big mare hunted him loads and said he took him form dusk till dawn and he would never tire, i believe that now!!

i know she's lurvly! ive rode her a few times but i would never take her hunting! its the lads mother's horse he's never hunted her b4 and she's not been out in 3 yrs! he was so unfazed by the rodeo'ing she started with! unfortunately she's not the most nimble on her feet! we call her the cruise ship

20 is not old! My little mare won the riding club cup for the horse with the most points for the year at 23. She was still doing well at 28. Your pony looks great for his age. The vet told me my mare was only middle aged and she's 18.

I too love the big black mare. I have a big (but not that big 17h) black mare too who looks quite alike.

yea, five ashes/rotherfield stonemill farm on dewlands hill, must be the steepest yard ever, only flat sufface is the schools and stables!lol!

How spooky is that! I was there over winter and used to hate the frost on the slope. I had the box in the corner next to the tack room. Love the indoor school (!).

I hunted my first pony well into his 20's and used to hack to and from meets as he wouldn't load. I can remember being out all morning and hacking back home down the A272 still doing a sideways bouncy canter.

oh wow how cool! ive been there 3 yrs and love it! only eight of us there no staff so we just do our own things! have tighter bum muscles from the hills and hate walking over the hills to catch horse! did averina own it when u were there? and was heidi around? she left and came back, she says she was there yrs ago! we went to the meet on stonehurst lane so 5 min hack for us!
