Pickups and dogs

When you have a pickup truck, where do you put the dog?

Short journeys ours wear a harnness and sit in the back of the pickup their lead gets attached to one of the many attachment points, they love it!! On longer journeys they go inside the cab (we have bought waterproof coversfor all the seats) its only me and OH so dont have an issue with kids!!

in the back, but we have a top on it, and have two ventilation bars which keep top ajar but not if terriers are in there, detest people who travel dogs in open backs, known of them coming out and being killed, should be illegal.

Hmmm - my ex OH had an open backed pick up and one day he breaked very sharply and my spaniel (who was standing on the wheel arch) fell out - cue vet and stitches!

We use pick ups at the shoot and although they have the standard, regulation high top canvas it doesn't stop the dogs getting out. Thankfully, when we are on the go they just stand at the tail gate looking out but as soon as we stop (go in for soup etc) my spaniel jumps out to join us!

Actuallly I had a very, very scary moment - we had finished shooting and on the way home I was driving one of the shoot pick ups. We stopped off at the shop and I parked on the opposite side of the road (remember the weather was awful and the roads barely passable at the that time). I came out of the shop to discover that Flyn had jumped out the back and as soon as he saw me he ran towards me just at the very moment a car came  Thank God the weather was awful, the roads were awful and the car driver saw what was happening as he was going very slowly.

He very courteously stopped and allowed me to cross the road and get Flyn in the back of the truck but I just know that had the roads been normal, Flyn would have been squashed - no doubt about it :(

I drive a full cab 4x4 and very thankful I am for that!

what you do on private property is up to you ours ride in mule (golf buggy atv) or on quad but public road shut in for everyones safety, break hard they end up on road.

I bought the truck & had a top fitted to the back with the intention of the dogs being in the 'pick up' part, but I put them in there & they look at me through the rear view window with their sad little eyes, I always give in and bring them into the car part!!

^^ this :D
although if i open the window to the back bit when they've been left in the car they love wriggling through and exploring whats in the boot

Thanks for your replies. I have always wanted a pickup and fancy getting a Ranger at some point but wasn't sure where the 9st wolf would go!

Not keen on canopies as they (IMO) spoil the lines of the truck. Also would prefer not to have wolf hair all over my seats:)

Have found these (to be used with a harness)

All hypothetical as I can't afford anything atm:(
