What do you think? I dont think he's put on very much and tbh I dont think he ever will

. Hes on ad lib hay and 4ks of mix with added soya and sugar beet-I cant overdo the the hard feed.Oh, he is still on daily cortisone which doesnt help overall
ooo.gif

He is certainly looking better than when he first arrived, considering the problems that he has had. I think it will take time for him to put on some weight because i don't think he would be a naturally good doer, also tough because you don't have the good grass in the summer.

I just think it is brilliant that he is with you now.

O bless him!

I agree I think he is looking better than when he arrived and its better thats it slower at his age anyway - do you get grass in the 'winter'?

He is getting all the right stuff along with plenty of fibre so now its just time isn't it?

I still think he is gorgeous!!

God he's not ugly at ALL(read other post)! He's got a gorgeous head and a face i just want to kiss. I'm not sure i remember the story, but he looks happy enough and i'm sure he's improving if he's with you Mairi. Do you have any 'before' pics?

This is a before pic taken in April when he arrived. He had been on cortisones for yonks (resp problems) and had just had his lungs washed out. He also has neurological problems and I was told he is a wobbler on all 4
crazy.gif
. He trips up continuously and cannot stand straight-he has to 'park out' (always). Poor lad, hes been through some tough times!

Am uploading ones from today. Ill be as quick as I can.

Definately better!

There is a shine to his coat now and definately a bit more covering especially on his rear and round his shoulders. They take forever to fill out over their ribs but as you say he has had a hard time and considering all his problems looks lovely!! He looks like he is a real gentle giant!

he does look a smidging better but I have serious doubts if we will get him looking like a suma wrestler
smile.gif
. He's happy enough, he can lie down, get up and turn round in his box
laugh.gif
. His last box he could...stand still-full stop!

i think it's horrible for one that a horse could get in this condition and i'm sure you've tried your very hardest to help him improve and to give him a better standared of life, which by the looks of it you have, but if you want my honest opinion, i don't think it looks like he's ever going to put on a lot of weight or be of a good condition and i think conformationally there may be things in the future that would stop him from leading a normal ridden life.
maybe it would be best to put him out of his misery?

Mairi I have never seen pics of this horse before so am just saying what I see.

I would say yes his coat has improved, but it is hard to tell as it is clipped in the earlier pics and many will have a duller coat when clipped.

I cannot see any improvement in his condition, though this is obviously just from a couple of photos

He is looking a lot better than he was. I agree that his coat looks to have a better shine and he just looks healthier. Oscarsmum, Ali is in retirement and there is no intention of riding him. He is not in misery so does not need to be put out of it.
He deserves a nice retirement. Even if he doesn't put much more weight on, it doesn't mean that he is miserable. He is in a nice wee herd and waited on hand and foot by Mairi, can't see any misery there.
The other thing is, Mairi loves her horses, but she is not a fluffy, wishy washy type, if she thought for one minute that Ali wasn't happy or comfortable, then she would do the right thing.

that first pic shows what a big horse he is. I hope he keeps improving and lives happily and healthily for a long time to come.
I still think it must be wonderful to have a horse with his past and talent living with you.
