Okay well VERY long way off, but one day I want to BE or BSJA my supersonic jumping machine Lacey -cough- Only joking, but she does have a big jump on her, but she's 14.2hh/14.3hh, 6 years old (so not ready now) and I'm out of Juniors in 2009 and she won't be ready. I'm not gonna outgrow her unless I get like obese (she's a welsh cob) and I love her to bits and will never sell her even if she can't manage striding, but I do worry about it as I am competitive and do have high hopes for us...

So surely you guys must have some piccies of small horses (up to about 15hh?) doing senior BSJA and BE!

Edit/ Oops sorry meant to put it in the Competition forum, god I'm being useless lately

One day me and Lacey will prove the people on my yard who say I need a "proper" horse wrong!

Rosie (Welsh Cob) did upto Newcomers but struggled with the striding between doubles and related distances so we gave up after we were out of Discovery, but she was very competitive over the smaller stuff.

Left it for a few years and then joined BE. Did one Intro and then into PN which is where I intend to stay because the SJ again will be too big for her at Novice.
Apart from Dressage which we're average at, she's had 100% clears in the SJ and only 3 blips on the XC out of 28 starts. Here's some pics:

Ahrena - she just about scrapes 14.3hh and is a Welsh Cob who doesn't look like one!

Fruity - never thought we'd be able to do this. At 5-6yrs old she was doing 1ft 9" to 2ft 3", and at 7yrs she'd progressed to 2ft 9"+. I'd never done much bigger than this with any horse but had always wanted to event, but Rosie wouldn't do ditches so didn't think there was much chance.

When she was 7/8yrs old I went to the Trailblazers Champs (bottom photo) and we jumped the biggest jumps we'd both ever done. (She was 1st Reserve Champ in the Senior 95/100m Champs). So I thought I'd affiliate SJ, push on to see where we could get. Discoveries - great, 1.05m just about OK. 1.10m - oxers too wide and distances too long.

Then BE reduced the size of PN from 3ft 6" to 3ft 3" and ponies from 15hh to 14.2hh, so thought we'd have a go.

Our first PN was a shock, I thought it was massive, but Rosie didn't. We came 9th and I was elated.

She's got over her fear of ditches, and really looks after me as if I wimp out, she takes over and just does it.

I probably bored her to death taking it all so slowly over the years but I suppose it's paying off now! I've had her 12yrs and she's the love of my life even though she scares me on hacks!

I'm sure you'll get there!!

:O How come they didn't put that wall up when I went to the nationals? [mind you, we were in the 75cm class] We didn't place thought, because we'd had some issues over the summer (basically because being a welsh cob I gave her the same as my sister's cob always got, a handful of chaff, and with there being nothing in the grass she didn't have enough energy, was very nappy and stroppy, so fed her up, gave her a holiday off jumping and shows and now we're getting there again).

There's hope for us yet then!

I suppose even if she can't manage over 1.05m, we can always do the open 90cm/1m classes, and theres loads of championships unaffiliated we can aim for if she can't manage higher than that.

I also have a Welsh Cob, although he isn't a pony at 15.2hh. He's the black in my siggy - the XC one is him doing his first BE Intro in Sep. Plan to do more intro's with him next year and hopefully PN, although don't think we'll go much bigger TBH because he doesn't have the pace! His stamina stinks!

He's done BSJA to Discovery.

My arab is only just (if he stands on his tip toes!) 15hh, and although he isn't affiliated (yet!) here is a photo of him jumping a couple of intro level XC fences - hoping to do an intro or two with him next year. He's jumping 90cm/1m unaffiliated classes and has done a few BN/Disc on a ticket. Ultimate aim is to get round a PN and jump 1.10 classes BSJA. He's 11 now, I've had him since he was 7 and before that he'd never jumped over 2'9, and even then was more likely to have done 2'0/2'3 classes on the odd occasion he was jumped (did mostly endurance).
This is a 1m spread:

This was about 90cm/1m I think?

This is apparently on the intro course at Burnham Beeches BE, although don't know if that is true or not tbh!!

No reason why the little ones can't do well - my lad's stride is actually longer than my friend's old 16.3hh TB's was!

Rosie had poor stamina for years. Maybe it's a Welsh Cob thing?

Now she's 14yrs she's got loads!

In the summer when she's eventing she only has Cool Mix, Chaff and grass, and has plenty of energy, especially for spooking!

This is my sister's 14.2 Sparrow. We've had him nearly 4yrs and he's done absolutely everything we've ever asked of him. They started BE this season and he went clear xc every time, and he came 5th in the mini burghley event pony. I don't think he realises he's smaller than the average event horse and his ego makes up for his lack of height. He has jumped round a couple of BE Novices xc courses easy peasy but the sj would be a struggle and at 18yrs old we don't want to push him.
