All the turnout posts have really tickled, me & while i'm a big believer in making an effort, i thought of something that made me chuckle
you're new to hunting and everyone has told you how important turnout & manners are, so obviously you've done your best, you arrive, and the first thign you spot are two people in battered looking wax jackets, wearing rubber boots on unplaited horses with baling twine holding something to their saddle, you then set off from the meet & stay toward the back out of the way, you seem to be surrounded by people who have also not plaited, have orange reins and blue girths, no martingales and can't stop, stand still or jump, two of them are wearing body protectors over thier jackets, and fall off... twice....
the above would sound fairly ropey to a newcomer, yet they are pretty accurate descriptions of gateshutters & qualifers, things are not quite as they seem!
