Hi, so I thought I would do a progress update on my boy as I feel we are getting there. I am wishing the next few months away as I can't wait to see how his feet will end up. He's been on the forage plus hoof balancer about 6 months now, biggest change is in the angle of his hooves and how they are growing, also the texture - they seem rougher?

He is still careful on stony ground or gravelly concrete but we hack barefoot now with lots of trotting.

So, previous thread of his feet here

His feet as of yesterday

Well that one looks pretty healthy to me!

That 'roughness' you refer to isn't actually the hoof wall, but the remains of the periople, a rubbery coating that protects the new hoof growth. The fact that the hoof is producing so much is another indicator of good health.

Ah I didn't realise that would be it, now you've said that it makes sense as if his feet get washed then it stays looking wet for much longer -thanks

Now you've posted the other photos I can see why he's still careful on rough ground, his heels are still a work in progress. But he's growing the new angles that will resolve that before long.
