Luckily it wasn't a very busy road and horsey was very well behaved. First time I have had the farrier out since I bought him a few months ago. £17. Not bad.

That's one heck of an event line there - was that when you bought him, about 4 months ago?

About 5 months ago, yes. Within two weeks of arriving he developed symptoms of piroplasmosis.. a very serious tick borne disease which isn't around in the UK. Took a few weeks to diagnose and cost 1000 quid in treatment. He lost heaps of weight and I was told to give him horse feed to put weight back on... so we think all this caused the event line. Fortunately everything since then looks good.

Thanks everyone... I didn't really do anything. The vet got rid of the disease and thankfully horsey was young and strong enough to recover by himself with a bit of TLC. He is my first horse and I am a novice, on my own out here at the minute, plus learning a foreign language so it has been a steep learning curve in many aspects!! His hooves in the second pic (before trimming) look atrocious... I kind of gasped after I'd put the photo online... I swear they didn't look as bad in real life as they did in this pic. I have been trying to get this farrier out for about a month and it's been so difficult ( he is apparently the only barefoot farrier any good in this area - we are pretty rural) ... I was about to go buy a rasp and have a gentle go myself if he had taken much longer! No joke!

Nothing wrong with having a go yourself....my farrier showed me how to and now I do all mine myself...little and often :)
