What a crazy day yesterday was, stupid sat nav! Had a bit of a mixed day with Vivaldi yesterday, he got slammed for the curb on his hock (which my vet isn't worrided about at all but then we know how he got it and that it is going) and judges also said his pasterns were too long and soft. So with low scores from the vet and for his limbs, even his great scores for athelticism and correctness of paces wasn't enough and we missed a 1st premium by .6 of a mark.

But we got there and back in one piece and his dam was a star considering her sole purpose in life is to eat and pop out foals occasionally and she hasnt been out since her grading 11 years ago! Love these pictures of the fat monkey

What a photogenic foal!! He certainly looks worthy of a 1st Premium so that was really tough luck. Bring him back as a Yearling and show the panel they got it wrong!

He's lovely Sacha - bad luck to miss a 1st. Re the pasterns, my chestnut horse is long in the pastern (more than Vivaldi), moves beautifully (best of all our horses) and never had a problem with them, despite plenty of hunting etc. He really is the most comfortable horse I've ever ridden - down to his pasterns of course.

Lovely pictures!! Lovely boy!

Have you noticed in most of the pictures he has exactly the same footfall as his mum?

I noticed that - so sweet, as though he was trying to do exactly what Mummy did!

He's gorgeous - and so is Mummy!

I had a few comments from spectators on his great walk, and as walk and canter are the most important gaits, thats pretty good.
ASM - I like a horse with a decent pastern, cant stand short upright ones (and funnily enough that is his sires weakest point IMHO) so I am not overly worrided about the evaluators comments that they are a bit long. Just a shame it edged us out of that 1st premium.

He was a bit shell shocked so stuck close to mum all the time, bless him. Was a different story back home in the field when he announced his return to the other foals - litle hooligan

Now how did I miss this posting...

I was looking for your report on how you got on. Shame about you just missing out. We had the same with one of ours by .25, so frustrating! But he is looking FAB, a real uphill canter in the first pic
