Pictures!! How do you upload pictures on to this site?

I have finally got some pictures on my computer of my welsh d but am struggling to upload them - any help appreciated please??

I think i am dim - i tried the step by step guide, tried to upload an avatar (btw, is that the little pic that appears below your username - i assumed so?) and STILL can't seem to do it. I have no patience and gave up!
