Hi,

My horse has developed this strange looking marks on his hind quarters but also his skin under his "armpits" where it is wrinkly has gone bald.. its not flaky but it has come up in bumps.
He is not in hard work at the moment so I didnt think it was due to extreme sweating.
He did get a bout of colic a month ago but I cant imagine that is related.
Any ideas what it could be?

looks to me like something is making him itchy, lice/mites, allergy and he’s scratched his rear end on the fence, do you have barbed wire?

I would say the 'armpit' irritation is due to midges, the mild weather has brought them on in droves. Try rubbing Vicks vapour rub in there to deter them.
As said, the marks on his quarters look like wire scrapes, probably from him scratching against a fence.

I dont have wire but he does have a wooden shed he could be scratching on.
I've bathed him in isecticide shampoo to kill an lice if it something like that... I do have a few midges about I have noticed but this is the first year he has ever developed anything like this, most odd!

Weird isnt it SpookyPony?! He doesnt seem bothered by it at all though!
I sent the photos to the vets too and they dont know what it is either and suggested an allergic reaction to something due to his poor immune system which might have taken a further knock after his colic a month ago.
