Wow...31 views and no comments:confused:

I guess maybe I should have named her Sadako - poor forum members are being horrified out of their boots by her as she gallops out of their computer screens:p

Hippo is my eleven year old Arab mare:D

Bought her last November, from a home where she had been mostly a companion to younger horses. Was also used for hacking. Her teeth hadn't been done in two years, her feet were crumbly, and she had rain scald all down her back and flanks, and mud fever on all four legs:(

So she's needed some work. Only just starting to be worked consistently over the past month or so, due to various health scares for both of us. And the fun and games of finding a saddle...

She's shaped up nicely over the past nine months, but still has a good way to go regarding her ridden behaviour! Is jumping 3 feet now, am very happy. Think we have a lot more muscle to develop though.

She looks lovely and I have to say alot slimmer than my arab mare looks at the moment! Do you know anything about her breeding? How are you finding the western saddle fit wise?

You know that I love her. :D She really would make a super matching pair with my Floss (although I still don't have the pink headcollar ;) ). Are those fleabites that I can spy in her coat? Floss has loads but they don't photograph very well. :(

I really pleased that you found a saddle that doesn't bother her lump. :) Do you jump in the western saddle or does she have a GP one too?

Yes, she's covered in fleabites, Faracat! I am still too much of a chicken to jump her, but when H does, she uses my dressage saddle.

Hutchlou, she is 14.3hh and officially recorded as grey, though I agree that she looks dun at times!

Lilyoftheincas, it is very comfortable indeed but hard to get out of afterwards due to the very high cantle!

Slave2Magic, I am getting the saddler out to re-check both her saddles to be safe, but so far have seen no problems myself since her last saddle fitting session. She's a broad little mare - typical Arab!

Her sire was Dakshah, and her dam was HT Nyvada, and she was bred at a stud farm in County Antrim back in 2001.

Glad to see that I'm not feeding her too much - poor mare thinks I'm very cruel! She is on 24/7 grazing, and gets a half scoop of chaff with balancer and supplements in it every day. No molasses, no molasses sustitutes, no added sugar, no cereals...and she's been sharing a starvation paddock with a herd of ponies for almost two months now! Is now in a better field, as she is doing more work.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! Will have to add more pictures:D

Ask and ye shall receive, lol!

Sorry about the Mohawk; these were taken the day before I gave up on growing out her bridle path. It's now smooth again:)

She's lovely!! She suits the western saddle - I like :p Now when can we see some action shots? :D

JFTD - H is riding her in a show at our yard tomorrow. I will ask if it's ok to get a picture of her jumping. If not, you will have to settle for one of me pootling about afterwards:D

I have no recent photos of her being ridden...must correct this!

She looks great - very pretty.

What is her ridden behaviour like? My boy is unbelievably good now - still not getting smug but it makes hacking a bit more relaxing.

Bluewhippet, she's better than she was but still very "looky"; the trick is to spot what she might spook at and prevent her from viewing it as scary. Hence my crazy sounding running commentary when riding or leading in hand:

"Oh look, bikes! We like bikes! Let's say hello to the nice bikes! Oh, a little doggy! We like doggies!" Etc. Gets embarrassing, but it works:o

All of this with a stereotypical Irish accent too, which is odd as I don't usually sound at all Irish! It isn't deliberate, but when dealing with Hippo, I suddenly appear to hail from Wexford!

Yay! You should be ashamed  No recent action pictures  I demand to see at least some of you on her! :D

JFTD, I have one from our previous yard. I will put it up. Just me grinning like an idiot whilst Hippo tries not to die of embarrassment! It was taken the day the saddler was out. All the rest got wiped during a technological hiccup on OH's PC:(

All the more reason to take more tomorrow:D
