Nugz is a greedy little toad, and nothing so far has slowed him down. I have tried truly ad-libbing to get him to self regulate, but it never happened and all that was happening was he was getting through a bale of hay a night and in the morning it was been clear he'd been taking advantage of his straw bed.
Since then I have been double or triple netting, but he is also too cleaver and worked out how to get a nice seam of hay out quickly and a big slice of hay would still only last about an hour.
Tried greedy feeder nets from Shires. Nope, still a slice an hour. Tried double netting, and while it slowed him down, he got so frustrated he was thrashing the net and himself against the wall to get it out. Eventually, he then worked out how to get the holes lined up. A big slice would last about an hour and a half.
So. I read somewhere about hanging it up so the horse can't use the wall to help get the hay out. Thought I would give it a go and see how he got on. I thought I would ease him in gently and just use a single haylage net and despite me thinking he might reverse out backwards at warp speed, he seemed to spot the hay from 40 paces before and tucked straight in. No Problems, nothing.

Decided that has the hay was still going down at a rate of knots, I would put up the greedy feeder. As you can see from the video, this didn't go down quite so well...
Awww Muuummmmm:

Not quite sure what I will do if he needs a rug on overnight, as all bar one cooler have the hook and slot (no idea what they're called) fastenings and concerned he will end up tangled
Seemed to be doing the job although he was relieved to still get another 'normal' net as well
