pig oil and sulphur

Don't use it to cure it, my mare had a reaction to the pig oil and sulphur but I was also told by the vet and supplier that if there is an existing infection, even though the sulphur treats it, the oil locks the infection is and make it 10000x worse.
 
I have used it to cure it - patch test first - it takes the scabs off without you having to pick at them, and the sulphur will kill the nasties. Swear by the stuff.
 
Be very VERY careful with it and even if you do patch test first you can still apparently get a reaction, a bad one at that.

I used it on my boy and would NEVER ever use it again; even the pig oil on its own can upset some horses.

So when I see people on here recommending it, I do tend to shudder, as its very nasty stuff if it does disagree with your particular horse.

It's great for softening scabs off. One girl on our yard uses vegetable oil to the same effect on mud fever.

Patch testing is always a good idea (as with any product, really...), but I make a point of applying it by pouring it into my hand, slapping it on and rubbing it through feathers. Pone's never reacted, neither have I :)
 
My boy had a bad reaction to pig oil and neem oil so please do a test area first, will never use either again.
