Is it OK to use pig slurry as a fertiliser for horse grazing? if so, how long should the field be rested before horses are put on the field?

Gets rid of buttercups a treat, we have used it on our grassland was fine if not applied too strong and don't mind the whiff!

I would expect that you will need to leave it for at least a month. And that is if we continue to get lots of rain.

There is a health risk from certain bacteria eg Salmonella so you need to leave the field for longer than for example with cattle slurrey. Probably worth harrowing half way through the rest period too, to break up any clumps of pig poo. ;)

Don't think you are allowed to put human slurry on grassland.

You can it just has to be treated first, and still stinks!!!

Yes to pig slurry we use it often on our grass and it has been commented on how much grass and how many horses we can have out on our fields :) If it is your pig slurry try and pick out the weaker more runny or watery slurry that is best because it doesnt need leaving so long just one rain shower and it is fine. General advise would be, if you can see it... Leave your horses off it for longer. But if it rains a few times then usually a week or 2 is fine :)
